Meanwhile, in the Laboratory...
It's nearly a month since I've written a blog entry - been busy in the lab.
Exam is in a nine days time. Feel good about this one now that 70-293 is out of the way.
[1] Authoritative Restore (AKA Whoops where did that OU go?)
Did a System State backup on a DC (not the FSMO). Deleted a TestOU. Replicate.
Reboot, Log in Active Directory Restore Mode (?) Restored System State from backup.
Rebooted again, Log in Active Directory Restore Mode, Run NTDSUTIL. Not to shabby.
[2] Inter Forest Trusts
Wasn't that hard - From server3.matrix.com to server1.cube.com. Both these servers are the FSMO role holders.
- Make sure AD and DNS are OK in each forest links
- Make a stub zone
- Make a trust
Easy-peasy.
[3] Child Domain
That MS KB is crap!
[4] Seizing FSMO Roles
Was forced into doing this after a massive VMWARE crash (running 5 servers at once probably wasn't that good an idea).
The AD on my FMSO role holder for matrix.com became totally corrupt. Seized it on SERVER5. No probs.
[5] AD Tools
REPLMON, DCDIAG, NETDIAG. Very handy! Wish they were in 2K!
[6] Other Stuff
Setting up bridgehead servers, cost. Renamed a DC. Haven't renamed a Domain yet.
